Between approximately 8 am on 25 June and 7 am on 26 June, the short outfall pipe discharged untreated wastewater into Tarakena Bay.

Signs are in place along the coastline to alert water users of areas which may be impacted by this event. Water quality samples will be collected from coastal locations once improved weather conditions allow.

Check LAWA.org.nz before visiting beaches along the south coast.

Call for feedback on potential options for discharging treated wastewater

The community is being asked for feedback on potential options for temporary discharges of treated wastewater from the Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Currently, during times of heavy rain, or when the main outfall pipe is undergoing maintenance, treated wastewater is discharged into the lower reaches of the Waiwhetu Stream. While these discharges are rare and generally only occur during storm events, a resource consent is required.

The existing resource consents for this activity are due to expire in February 2018. Applications for new resource consents need to be lodged by November 2017.

As part of the new resource consent application, Hutt City Council and Wellington Water are exploring potential options for how this treated wastewater is discharged. We’ve developed a short list of seven potential options (including the status quo) and are now seeking the community’s feedback on them.

For more information on these options please visit wellingtonwater.co.nz/Seaview-outfall.

Feedback on the short list of options is due by 30 November 2016. Please email your feedback to caroline.a.vanhalderen@mwhglobal.com.
