Our purpose and values
Our common purpose
Our purpose is to put customers and communities at the centre of what we do, delivering safe and dependable water services, making good investment choices, and working together to build a trusted and environmentally sustainable water utility.
Our interim values
Tika / Integrity
Tika means we do what is right, even when no one is watching.
We take pride in upholding the highest standards of integrity in everything we do, speaking the truth with courage and being accountable to the communities we serve.
Whakauka/Care
We care deeply for our water, people, community, and environment.
Whakauka guides how we care for each other and work to sustain our environment, and the water we protect. We create safe, supportive relationships and act with empathy and respect. We nurture the wellbeing of our communities and ecosystems.
Manawa roa/Leadership
We step up, take ownership, and lead for the good of all.
Manawa roa is about showing leadership at every level. We take initiative, make thoughtful decisions, and follow through on our commitments. We work together to solve problems, improve what we do, and create long-term value for our communities, environment, and future generations.
Why these values
An explanation of the Māori terms and why they were chosen
Tika / Integrity
Tika means to be true and honest in the way we work. Doing what is right is the main theme in each statement.
Whakauka / Care
Whakauka means to be sustained and preserved. We ensure this is upheld through caring for wai, environment and people. It also is associated with our tagline, “He wai whakauka” (care in every drop).
Manawa roa / Leadership
Manawa roa describes the behaviour in which we lead. It means to lead with resilience, endurance and doing what needs to be done for the good of all.
