Between approximately 8 am on 25 June and 7 am on 26 June, the short outfall pipe discharged untreated wastewater into Tarakena Bay.

Signs are in place along the coastline to alert water users of areas which may be impacted by this event. Water quality samples will be collected from coastal locations once improved weather conditions allow.

Wellington Water – water infrastructure announcement response

Wellington Water’s acting Chief Executive Tonia Haskell says today’s announcement provides clarity on the Government’s intentions.

Wellington Water’s first principle is to ensure our staff are supported to understand the changes and their impact,’ Tonia says.  There is still a lot for those of us in the water services sector to absorb and analyse.

‘Now that the Government’s announced the changes, we will sit down with the six councils that own Wellington Water and assess the operational impacts and how we will jointly continue to ensure the provision of water services to consumers.

‘The certainty we now have is important and it will take time for us and our councils to work through the financial and operational impacts of the changes and the extension to the timeline,’ Tonia says.

Until Wellington Water and our councils have had time to discuss today’s announcement, we will not be doing interviews.
