Wellington Water Chief Executive appointed

The Wellington Water Board has appointed Tonia Haskell as the new permanent Chief Executive of Wellington Water.

Tonia has been acting in the role since January 2023.

Wellington Water’s Interim Chair, Nick Leggett has welcomed Tonia’s appointment. “This provides stability for our organisation and region as we move towards water reform.”

“Wellington Water must have the dual focus of delivery of three waters services on behalf of councils, while also preparing our people and organisation for the shift to a new water services entity. Tonia’s experience will be a huge advantage to deliver on these priorities.”

Water Committee Chair, Campbell Barry also welcomes Tonia’s appointment. “It’s great to have Tonia in the role permanently. Tonia brings a wealth of operational experience and strong leadership to the role. The Water Committee has been impressed with the way Tonia has managed the transition from the previous Chief Executive to effectively support the organisation and councils to continue to deliver safe and reliable water services in the Wellington region.”

“I’m thrilled to be appointed in the role of Chief Executive permanently,” says Tonia. “We do a really important job here at Wellington Water in providing essential water services to our customers. Key to this is the commitment and dedication of our people. My focus is to support the passionate and hard-working people at Wellington Water, particularly as we transition into a new organisation.”

Before taking up the role as Chief Executive, Tonia was the Group Manager for the Network Development and Delivery Group at Wellington Water, a role she had held for the past five years.
