Latest Updates

22/09/26 Works starting in Burma Road from October 5

We're replacing a poor condition stormwater pipe on a section of Burma Road, from Kim Street to Rangoon Street.

25/08/26 Works starting in Kipling Street.

We're renewing an old wastewater pipe in Kipling Street, these works include a section of Bannister Avenue and Elliot Street.

The Regional Drainage Renewals works will be undertaken by E Carson & Sons Ltd. Construction. It is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with physical works expected to be completed by June 2027.

Current activities include:

  • Final project planning and programme development.
  • Detailed site investigations and service location confirmation.
  • Traffic management and construction planning.
  • Coordination with contractors, councils and stakeholders.
  • Preparation for construction across the identified renewal sites.

Residents and road users may experience temporary disruptions during construction, including traffic management, reduced parking availability, and intermittent access restrictions. Tiaki Wai and its contractors will work to minimise impacts wherever possible and will provide advance notification before work begins in each area

Some stormwater and wastewater pipelines within the project area are ageing, deteriorating, undersized or nearing the end of their operational life. Without renewal, these assets present an increased risk of blockages, failures, overflows, service disruptions and capacity constraints.

The project includes:

  • Renewal of existing stormwater assets at Burma Road.
  • Renewal of wastewater assets at Ellesmere Avenue, Pinehaven Road and Kipling Street.
  • Construction of a new downstream wastewater main at Kipling Street to improve network capacity and reduce constraints within the existing system.
  • Installation of new manholes and associated network infrastructure.
  • Safe removal and disposal of asbestos cement pipe at Pinehaven Road.
  • Reinstatement of roads, footpaths, berms and affected public spaces following construction.

Once completed, the renewed infrastructure will help extend asset life, improve network performance, reduce maintenance requirements and support the long-term reliability of essential water services.
