We're replacing a drinking water pipe and installing a new manhole near the corner of Pukerua Beach Road and Ocean Parade.
Tiaki Wai, on behalf of Wellington City Council, is undertaking the renewal of a drinking water pipe in Tukanae Street, Strathmore.
We’re replacing old drinking water pipes in Porirua, the Hutt Valley, Newtown, and Strathmore that have been prone to leaks and breaks.
This work will make your water supply more reliable, reduce future disruptions and unplanned maintenance/outages.
The installation of new pipes will be undertaken by open trenching or drilling methods where ground conditions allow.
We’ll also renew the connection to your property up to and including your boundary (toby).

What to expect
At times, we may need to briefly turn off your water supply to connect the new pipe. We’ll give you advanced notice beforehand.
Access to your property will be maintained, although there may be short periods where driveways or roads are temporarily affected. We’ll let you know in advance.

What to expect
Traffic management will be in place to keep everyone safe and guide traffic around the work site. Please follow temporary traffic signs and instructions from traffic controllers.

One lane of the road will be closed during the day (7am to 4pm).

The closed lane will be for residents' access only.

One footpath will be closed at a time, and those closures will remain in place 24/7 throughout the project.

For about three days, traffic will be controlled with stop/go signs while the new water pipes are connected near Bedford Street.

Works are expected to be completed in early September
We appreciate your patience and understanding while this important work is completed. Our team is dedicated to minimising disruption and completing the project as safely and efficiently as possible.
The works will take place along Tukanae Street, between numbers 29 and 55. To enable the works and to ensure the safety of the community and contractors, there will be temporary parking restrictions.
What to expect
· No Parking signs and traffic cones will be installed where required. We will provide at least 24 hours' notice before parking restrictions are put in place.
· If your vehicle is parked within the work zone, you may be asked to move it.
· If a vehicle needs to be relocated, the towing operator will move it to the nearest available legal parking space and leave details of its new location.
· Access to driveways will be maintained throughout the works.
· If access to your property is temporarily affected, our team will liaise directly with you in advance.
· Please take care when travelling near the work site and follow all signage and directions from traffic management
